Crop World Global Conference 2011

Crop World Global 2011 attracted more than 700 delegates, speakers, exhibitors and exhibition visitors from 75 countries.

One of the most interesting debates was on the subject of food security. with representatives from Rabobank, Oxfam, AHDB, Millennium Institute and IFOAM all discussing the serious issue of how we can feed the world in a sustainable way.

There was a highly informative session from Jack Watts from HGCA and Graham Redman from Andersons giving some key facts and figures on harvest roundups and planting intentions in global markets. eFate Crop Study

Environmental Fate; Counting Low Level Radioactivity

New this year was the R & D platform, where Quotient Bioresearch contributed by giving a presentation on "Low Level Radioactivity Counting in Environmental Fate Studies". Andrew McEwen, Chief Scientist at Quotient, discussed a variety of approaches that can be taken to count very low levels of radioactivity often encountered in Efate studies. He showed some interesting data comparing detection levels using radioflow and microplate methodology, and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each approach.

Professor Sir John Beddington CMG FRS closed the event with some very interesting thoughts on the Foresight Report, where he discussed sustainable development and climate change.

CropWorld Global 2011 provided useful information and a discussion forum for those facing the challenges in the global crop production industry. Quotient looks forward to attending in 2012.
