Amersham* Radiolabeling Service was acquired by Quotient Bioresearch from GE Healthcare in June 2009.
Our new state-of-the-art-radiochemicals facility was fully operational by June 2010, with all staff successfully transferred from the former site operated by Amersham Radiolabeling Service. It has been named “The Old Glassworks”, reflecting the origins of the site on which it was built.

The Old Glassworks has been equipped with world-class technology, operating to the highest environmental and safety standards. It houses the largest and most experienced team of radiosynthesis chemists in the world.
Since June 2010, we have completed over 150 carbon-14 preparations and repurifications, plus over 80 tritium preparations. We have also improved tritium delivery times and can now deliver within 2-3 weeks of order.
Radiolabelling Service Facts
- 4500 square metres of floor space, of which about half is operational laboratories
- 100 fume hoods, 80 for use with carbon-14, 16 for tritium, and 4 in analytical areas
- 40 carbon-14 chemists, 10 tritium chemists and 8 analysts that support both isotopes
- 2 quotation managers and additional support staff to handle shipping, dispensing and logistics
- 2 newly recruited C-14 radiochemists, and further recruitment planned in the next 6 months.
Custom Synthesis Equipment
All of our specialist equipment is commissioned and in use, including; two new dedicated tritiation rigs, automated preparative HPLC facilities, a dedicated fermentation room, new HP1200 analytical HPLC equipment, TGA/DSC analytical equipment, as well as standard synthetic and analytical chemistry equipment such as MS, and NMR.
Quality, Safety and Environment
We have obtained ISO9001:2008 certification for the Cardiff site along with a drug license allowing us to handle and synthesize controlled compounds.
Storage facilities at the site have advanced security, fire and flood protection, and we have developed and are utilizing an innovative waste management system.
